Set 1,120 metres below the surface inside Sweden’s Garpenberg Zinc Mine, this world record breaking event will see 60 participants from 17 countries run a full 42.2 kilometre marathon in total silence and complete darkness. With only head torches for light and temperatures reaching up to 30°C, the conditions will be extreme, testing the endurance, resilience and commitment of every runner.
More than just a race, this challenge is driven by purpose. Together, the runners aim to raise $1 million in support of Wild at Heart Foundation and BecomingX, co-founded by Bear Grylls OBE, bringing light, hope and opportunity to those who need it most.
Meet the Man Behind the Mission
Augustus is running for the millions of stray dogs around the world who live their lives in the shadows, facing fear and uncertainty every day.
As the founder of Milo’s Dog Club, a London based adventure walk experience for high energy dogs, Augustus has dedicated his life to canine wellbeing, including welcoming two rescued ridgebacks into his home. His deep compassion and unwavering commitment to dog welfare has led him to take on this challenge to create lasting change for vulnerable dogs in need across the globe.
No stranger to pushing the limits, Augustus has previously completed a self sufficient five day ultramarathon through the Amazon and run a marathon after a four day fast in only five hours. Now, he is channelling that same energy, focus and determination into this world record attempt, shining a light on the lives of free roaming dogs and raising vital funds to help those still living in darkness.
Help Us Bring Light to Dogs Living a Life in the Dark
Approximately 75% of the world’s 900 million dogs live without the security of a home, facing daily threats of starvation, disease and neglect, with no consistent access to care. Like the runners navigating the mine, these dogs face a survive in the shadows, unseen and forgotten. But unlike the marathon, their struggle is not a choice.
By sponsoring Augustus, you are directly supporting Wild at Heart Foundation’s mission to create a better future for stray dogs through vital sterilisation, education and welfare initiatives. Your generosity will help prevent future suffering, provide urgent care, and give vulnerable dogs around the world the second chance they deserve.
Together, we can bring light, hope and lasting change to dogs who need it most.
