Our Mission

Celebrating 10 Years of Impact: Transforming the Lives of Free-Roaming Dogs Worldwide

Free-roaming dogs around the world endure immense suffering, facing malnutrition, disease, and mistreatment. With a focus on sterilisation, welfare, and education, we work to improve their lives and encourage compassionate care of all dogs.

Free-roaming dogs fall into three categories:

  • Wild or feral dogs – living without human interaction.
  • Community dogs – engaging with humans to varying degrees.
  • Lost or abandoned pet dogs – that have become strays.

With sustainable solutions and community-led initiatives, we are not just changing lives; we are building a more compassionate world where every dog is valued and protected.

“Every dog we help is a life changed. With 18.8 million homeless dogs in Mexico, the need is overwhelming. Thanks to Wild at Heart Foundation, countless lives are being reached, healed, and given hope.”

— Gillian Wood, Mexico Project Partner

Our Focus

Sterilisation

Sterilisation remains the single most effective and compassionate method of controlling the free-roaming dog population. Without intervention, one female dog and her litter of puppies could result in 67,000 more homeless dogs living on the streets in just six years. We are proud to make sterilisation an integral part of our mission and so far over 32,700 dogs have been sterilised thanks to our work with global partners.

Studies prove that over time and with continued sterilisation and vaccination efforts, regional dog populations significantly decrease, and the welfare of the remaining dogs, whether they are stray or partially owned, is greatly improved.

Welfare

Wild at Heart Foundation improves the welfare of free-roaming dogs worldwide by funding vital initiatives through our project partners, including vaccinations, veterinary care, food, and shelter, to combat malnutrition, disease, and injury. By supporting these welfare programmes, we provide life-saving treatment, reduce suffering, and give free-roaming dogs a better chance at survival.

In addition to international efforts, we extend our welfare work to the UK, supporting food banks that help pet owners struggling to care for their animals. Economic hardship can often lead to pet abandonment, but by providing access to pet food and supplies, we help keep dogs in loving homes and prevent them from being abandoned.

Education

As a key part of our mission, we aim to deliver educational programmes that promote animal welfare, empathy, and respect for dogs. Through community engagement, we have collaborated with schools and local non-profits to raise awareness and support compassionate, long-term solutions for free-roaming dogs.

The Foundation will offer a KS2 Be Kind education programme, available for UK schools to sign up to throughout the year. These downloadable worksheets are designed to teach children compassion and kindness towards animals while promoting our message of responsible pet care. More information on our education programme coming soon.

Our Focus

Creating Lasting Change Together

Whether you are giving a one-off gift, a dedicated grant, or a multi-year pledge through major giving, your support helps us reach the dogs worldwide who need us most.

Every gift, no matter the size, brings us a step closer to a world where no free-roaming dog suffers needlessly. Join us in creating a future for stray dogs built on compassion and explore how your philanthropy can make a lasting impact.

Our Focus

The Power of Purposeful Giving

Philanthropic support enables us to deliver vital sterilisation programmes, provide essential veterinary care and nourishment, plus invest in long-term, sustainable solutions, such as education and community outreach, that humanely address and reduce the global overpopulation of stray dogs.

Our Focus

Why Philanthropy Matters

At Wild at Heart Foundation, we rely on the generosity of compassionate individuals, grant makers, and organisations who believe that every dog deserves a chance at a healthy, happy life.

Philanthropy is more than a donation; it is a powerful expression of empathy, purpose, and a shared belief that we can build a world where no dog is left to suffer.

Our Focus

Simple to Set Up, Powerful in Impact

With the support of a Payroll Giving agency, the process is seamless. Once in place, your company can offer an ongoing, low-effort initiative that has high long-term impact for stray dogs in need.

Plus, employers can amplify their impact by matching donations, doubling the support for stray dogs and offering them a better chance at life.

Our Focus

Make Every Pound Count for Stray Dogs in Need

If an employee chooses to give £10 a month from their pre-tax income, this means every £1 given only costs the employee 80p, with Wild at Heart Foundation receiving the full £10.

If 50 employees give £10 each month, the total value to Wild at Heart Foundation is £6,000 per year, which could sterilise 200 dogs.

With one female dog and her offspring capable of producing 67,000 puppies in six years, their sterilisation could prevent over 13 million dogs from being born into a life of misery.

Our Focus

What is Payroll Giving?

Payroll Giving (also known as Give As You Earn) is a simple, tax-efficient way to support Wild at Heart Foundation directly from your salary.
Your donation is taken before tax, meaning it costs you less to give more; and by giving regularly through your payslip, you provide vital, steady support that allows us to fulfil our mission to improve the welfare of free-roaming dogs blighted by malnutrition, disease, and injury.

Our Focus
