Wild at Heart Foundation want to end the suffering of stray dogs all over the world. We believe that each and every dog deserves the chance to live a healthy, happy life, free from the threat of pain, suffering, cruelty, or neglect. We are working to compassionately reduce the world’s 600 million stray dog population.
The current conflict in Ukraine has shown the kindness and compassion that the citizens of Ukraine have for their companions. Animals are not immune from war. Each animal that you see being carried from conflict, represents a family who have loved and cherished them.
We have historically been at the forefront of meeting the needs of stray dogs around the world. However, as we see the heart-breaking scenes emerge from Ukraine, we know that we must do everything we can to support all animals, and the people who love them so deeply.
In order to provide emergency veterinary aid and food to the hundreds of thousands of dogs who are starving, injured, lost and frightened due to the Russian invasion, we are organising our first Facebook Challenge where participants will take on a 60-mile Dog Walking Challenge throughout the month of August to raise vital funds for the dogs of Ukraine and their owners.
Bordering countries such as Poland and Romania are praised for their acceptance of pets, even those without proper documentation or medical records. Tests are being carried out at border crossings to allow each animal to be safely permitted in a process designed to reduce and eradicate risks such as disease and sickness.
The Challenge will directly benefit our partner charities Sava’s Safe Haven and Dioz who are actively providing emergency aid to Ukraine’s dogs. We keep an open line of communication with each organisation to establish what their needs are, be it food, veterinary care or sterilising and vaccinating Ukrainian dogs to enable them to find new homes.
