Esme in three words | Learning to love
Esme and her siblings were found on an empty plot of land in a village 5km from the main town, Mytilene. They were extremely frightened and it was difficult to catch them. They were full of fleas, very underweight and extremely hungry. They are now living in foster care and awaiting new homes.
Esme has made great progress with human contact, she still has a lot to learn and doesn’t trust all people but once she knows you she is very friendly, cuddly and loves licking your face!
Esme has a gentle and sweet nature, she loves cuddling up and playing with her siblings. She is still a little underweight so is eating (and enjoying!) lots of food.
Esme doesn’t like sudden movements and still has a slight fear of being touched. Esme and her siblings prefer to come to people on their own terms, when they feel they can trust you.

Susie in three words | Good as gold
Susie’s owner decided she was too much of a burden and threatened that she was going to kill her to other people. When our partner shelter heard this they immediately took Susie off her hands.
Since arriving at the shelter, Susie has been nothing but amazing. She is not disruptive or has not destroyed anything as the owner claimed. Even if she did, that’s nothing that some dedicated training and love from the shelter could rectify.
Susie is shy with people at first, she likes to investigate and get to know them before she becomes your friend. Once she trusts you she is very sweet, obedient and extremely intelligent.
Susie likes to hide under the bushes to relax and purvey her surroundings, she is a particularly curious dog, always looking for the next thing to investigate.
Susie isn’t a fan of lead walking, she is still a bit nervous but this is nothing that a little dedicated training couldn’t solve.

Monkey in three words | Cheeky little monkey
Cheeky little Monkey is a 5 month old bundle of happiness who has the gentlest of natures. In the few months she’s been at our partner shelter in Thailand, she’s stolen the hearts of all the staff (including WAHF’s own Eleanor when she visited on a recent project trip!) Her constantly wagging tail, pricked up ears and smiley personality are impossible to resist.
Monkey had a tough start to life: after being hit by a car as a tiny puppy, she was stranded at the side of a busy road. This left her incredibly vulnerable to further injury, and she was in huge amounts of pain – thankfully, a local passerby saw her and had the good sense to contact Bon Jardin, the organisation we partner with out in Thailand. As soon as they received a call, they drove straight to the site and took her the vet. Monkey was found to be suffering from severe anaemia and blood-borne parasites and was too weak for surgery. So whilst undergoing lengthy treatment to get her platelets back up, her leg was placed in a cast to fuse.
Fortunately, three months on, this gorgeous girl has finally bounced back with an extra spring in her newly healed step! She’s a wonderful soul who gets on brilliantly with dogs and humans alike. She loves to play with her shelter-mates of all ages, and runs rings around them all with her razor sharp intelligence. She’s even learnt how to open the gate of her enclosure despite the elaborate lock!!
Whilst Monkey hasn’t yet been tested around children, we’re very confident she’d adapt wonderfully to life with a family. She could also live with another dog.
Her broken back leg is now fully healed, and she’s had the all clear from her vet. As with all our Thai dogs, she’ll receive a blood tests and paperwork before travelling to the UK.
Monkey will be ready to travel from early January, and we’d love to have a new family lined up ready to help usher in a new year and a brand new life!

Reuben in three words | Waiting for forever
Originally from Cyprus, Reuben is now living in foster in the UK – visits can be arranged for serious enquiries.
Reuben was found with his siblings, living on the streets at a young age. He grew up in a foster home in Cyprus with his siblings until he was 4 months old and then was shortly adopted within the UK.
Sadly, Reuben’s previous home has not worked out for him because he feels very stressed around children. Therefore, we are looking for a home with adults only.
Reuben is currently in a temporary foster home in London but would prefer a more rural setting because he can be vocal towards noise and busy city life. He enjoys the countryside and absolutely loves chasing around in the woods for hours on end – he constantly checks in but is also happy to stay close and play fetch with you!
Reuben has a high prey drive and therefore has to be monitored for safe areas to allow him off lead. He isn’t good in smaller/less enclosed park areas or around livestock. However, his current foster carer has been working with him consistently and he is showing improvement in this area.
Reuben loves other dogs and plays gently with them. He is sometimes vocal and shows teeth when playing but this is just his style of play and he has befriended another foster dog named Buckley at his current home. Although not essential, he would love to be rehomed with Buckley or, alternatively, into a home with another dog.
Reuben is extremely intelligent and curious. He is very good with commands, except heeling whilst out and about as his curiosity can get the better of him! He would love a home where people are around for most of the day, can occupy him with mental stimulation games and keep up with his training as he is a very capable dog.
Reuben adores people and will cuddle up to you for hours once he is tired. He enjoys his home comforts and prefers to be tucked up in a blanket at bedtime.

Daisie in three words | Willing to learn
Daisie was left at the shelter with her brother at around 3 months old and was adopted in the UK at 5 months.
Sadly, Daisie is needing to be rehomed due to her owner having some unforeseen health concerns. She is currently living in West Sussex.
Daisie is a bright, energetic and lovely dog. She is a typical puppy and is still learning, she currently knows lots of basic commands such as sit, lie down, wait and is also house trained. She will walk to heel on the lead but can get distracted if she smells something interesting – at this point Daisie can be strong and pull.
Daisie loves people and is good with children but because of her size and excitability, a home with older children would be best.
She also enjoys playing with other dogs and could be adopted into a house with another dog.
Daisie is very prey driven and therefore needs good and consistent training with recall but has the ability to pick things up quickly with positive reinforcement. As Daisie likes to chase things, she isn’t good with cats or small animals in the house.

Phoebe in three words | Jumps for joy
Smiler was dumped at a petrol station in Bulgaria, left to fend for herself, but the worker at the petrol station called our partner shelter and they rescued her immediately. When she arrived at the shelter she had a minor case of dermodex mange but since she has been treated and her skin now looks great.
Smiler is a confident, happy and friendly girl. She is always excited to see you, especially in the morning, and likes jumping up for attention! The shelter are working with Smiler to combat her love of jumping up.
Smiler is very energetic and loves a long walk so a person or family who enjoy the outdoors is essential.
Smiler is good around other dogs and enjoys playing but she resource guards food and has to be separated when eating.
Smiler will be ready to travel from January 2020.

Sybil in three words | Desperately seeking forever
Sybil likely had a home her whole life… until recently. Sybil and her sister, Miley, lived in a house with lots of other dogs but sadly their previous owner suffers from some few health issues and was unable to continue caring for them. Our partner shelter stepped in and offered Sybil and Miley solace when they had no other option. These girls aren’t used to shelter life – they much prefer the comfort of a warm lap and cosy house and this is what we seek to find them once again.
Sybil is slightly more reserved than her sister, Miley. However, after some good treats and a belly rub she soon warms up to you and loves going for a good walk. With some time, patience and encouragement, Sybil could be a wonderful addition to someones home.
As Sybil has spent so much time living with her sister and other dogs, we would love for the girls to be rehomed together. Failing this, Sybil would benefit from a house with another dog she could befriend.
Sybil would prefer a quiet household with older children only.
Despite previously having a home, Sybil obviously hadn’t been properly cared for in years. Her coat is distinctly dull and with some love and a good groom she would shine like the star she truly is.

Miley adores her Saturday morning walks and loves a belly rub from the shelter workers! The Wild at Heart team, having recently met Miley, can assure you that this girl has a beautiful personality and once shown some love she can’t resist cuddling up to you at every opportunity.
Miley can be slightly shy to begin with but she responds well to encouragement (and treats!) and soon warms up to you.

Snowy in three words | Super smiley chappy
Snowy was tied up to the shelter gates overnight and found the next morning. He was rescued in October 2018 when he was around 1 year old. He didn’t appear lame at the time but in May 2019 it was sadly discovered by x-ray that Snowy may have been hit by a car before being dumped at the shelter. Snowy had a femoral head removed and the joint of his leg tidied up at the vets. He can sometimes limp but he doesn’t let this get in his way – he is generally fit and healthy and shows no sign of pain.
Snowy has the most gorgeous markings and is a super friendly chap. He is very confident and just desperately wants love and attention. He craves company and is never happier than when people show interest in him.
He hasn’t had exposure to kids but with older children Snowy should be adaptable as he is a gentle character, very kind and placid towards people.

Diego in three words | Loves to learn
Diego was rescued from Bosnia and adopted in 2017 but, sadly, his owners have recently arrived at the decision that Diego would thrive in a different home.
Diego has a super personality and is very playful and always up for fun; he enjoys jumping through fields of long grass like a gazelle and is also a keen swimmer, enjoying surfing the waves at the beach! He loves a ball, being chased and also playing hide and seek.
Diego is extremely intelligent and picks up commands and tricks very quickly. He is an absolute dream to walk; he enjoys chasing through the woods after squirrels but also has fantastic recall and is eager to please. Diego would be best suited to a home where the owner could teach him lots of commands, keep him busy and give him ‘jobs’ to do because this is when he feels most comfortable.
Diego unfortunately has a few areas where he struggles. Around strangers, Diego will react if they try to touch him or get too close. He also struggles within enclosed spaces and dislikes sudden movements.
He also shows resource guarding behaviour and will not allow anyone to remove or play with a toy/chew. He can also become possessive of space and is known to react to other dogs that get too close, for example, to a restaurant table or their house.
Diego adores the company of other dogs and regularly goes on group walks with his dog walker where he never tires of playing chase. He can sometimes be wary of big, fluffy dogs but with some encouragement he soon befriends them. In regard to Diego’s resource guarding, he feels less stressed when around other dogs that are dominant because he does not feel the need to protect/guard. However, once alone again, his resource guarding behaviour becomes apparent.
Diego is very calm and relaxed whilst at home and loves to cuddle up on the sofa with his favourite people.
As Diego doesn’t cope well with busy environments or areas, he would be best suited to a home in a rural environment where his owner could work on these anxieties slowly.

Sam in three words | Life long companion
Sam was found abandoned in the streets of India in 2017 and was very emaciated and weak. When Sam was rescued by a local charity in India, he quickly recovered his spirits. Sam made the journey to the UK recently but during his travels, his adopter sadly decided they didn’t couldn’t adopt him anymore. We are now looking for a perfect home where Sam can spend the rest of his life being spoiled with attention.
Sam takes some time to warm up to strangers because, having lived on the streets for most of his life, he has become wary of people and traffic. Sam is best when allowed to approach others because he doesn’t trust new people approaching him. However, with a gentle and calm approach, Sam soon learns to trust and has the ability to become a life long companion.
Sam is likely a German Shepherd type mix and is therefore very energetic and always very alert.
Sam’s favourite thing is playing fetch and tug of war – he has real drive when playing but isn’t very food motivated. He also enjoys splashing around in water whenever the opportunity presents itself!
Sam is ok around other dogs as long as the dog isn’t boisterous towards him – he prefers to keep himself to himself and would enjoy being the only dog in the household.
Sam loves going for long walks so an active lifestyle would suit him.
Sam is sensitive to the touch of unknown people and is especially sensitive around his ears.
He is currently living in foster in the Lake District.

Custard in three words | Sweet as pie
Custard was dumped by the shelter gates as a puppy and has been living at the shelter ever since.
We think she’s likely a Saluki mix, but whatever her DNA, Custard is a total beauty! She is very friendly, loves to cuddle and walks well on the lead outside the shelter. Custard has only been socialised with big dogs but she loves playing and living with them!
Understandably, Custard is a shy girl having been dumped from a very young age and would need time and patience to help build up her confidence in a new environment. For this reason, Custard would be best suited to at least a semi-rural home.

Alan is a real foodie and gets very excited at meal times. He has been known resource guard food around other dogs, so would be best suited to a home without other dogs or would likely need to separated when eating.

Joey in three words | Heart of gold
Lovely Joey has a heart of gold and is always smiling his goofy smile. With his gorgeous amber eyes and soppy stare, it’s hard not to be won over by this special boy!
Joey’s early life is something of a mystery – after spending many years attached to a house (either as a pet or as a fed ‘community dog’ – it’s not uncommon for Thai locals to feed the strays in their community and form bonds with their favourites!) a change in circumstance led to Joey roaming the street without anyone caring for him. Not used to having to fend for himself, he was struggling to get by. Thankfully, our partner shelter took him in and have been caring for him ever since.
Joey’s a gentle soul, and he’s happy to take on the role of chilled out bystander while some of the sparkier personalities might choose to rough and tumble – he’s definitely a thinker not a fighter!
That said, when Joey does get out for his regular rounds of the extensive shelter grounds, he loves a good run, and gallops around the long grass with a huge smile on his face!
He’s great with other dogs of all sizes and ages, and never starts a fight. Whilst we’ve not tested him with kids yet, his quiet school of cool will likely make him an excellent fit for families.
Joey will be ready to travel to the UK from early January onwards, and we know he’ll slot brilliantly into a loving home environment – he’s so easy going, we imagine he’ll be part of the furniture (or at least curled up snoozing on it) before you even know it!

Lucca is very playful – she enjoys playing with people and other dogs, she is even friends with the family donkey!

Chester in three words | Goofy little sweetheart
Chester and his sister were found abandoned in the busy area of Mytilene. They had been given very basic shelter by an old local but they kept escaping from here, causing themselves more danger around the busy roads. When a local foster carer was alerted to them, she quickly found them and took them in.
Chester is very gentle and sweet-natured. He enjoys tumbling around with his sister, going for short walks and sleeping! Chester loves cuddling and gets very excited about cuddling up to you!
He is not as outgoing as his sister, who he draws a lot of his confidence from, but with some reassurance and positive reinforcement we are sure his confidence will grow.

Liska in three words | Friend for life
Liska and her puppies were found by a local. Initially our partner shelter agreed to take the puppies only, on the proviso that the local would keep Liska and get her neutered. A few short weeks later, Liska was discovered on the streets again and the local had left the area, so our partner shelter took her in.
Liska was initially nervous but has now come out of her shell more with each day. She can be a little unsure at first but once trust has been built, she is your best friend and her true personality shines.
Liska is very playful and absolutely adores being cuddled. She has a gentle nature, loves her food and enjoys sunbathing in the garden.
Liska can be nervous when you stroke the top of her head and prefers being stroked under her chin. However, the shelter are working on this, along with lead and collar training and they are sure she will become more confident as time goes on.

Sparrow in three words | Love is blind
Sparrow was abandoned in a very busy area of Mytilene in Lesvos. A few days after being abandoned he was hit by a car, left badly injured on the side of the road. As a consequence of the crash, Sparrow’s left eye suffered severe damage and sadly had to be removed.
The infection from this eye also caused damage to the nerve in his other eye. Sadly this means that Sparrow likely doesn’t have full vision in his right eye either. It is thought that Sparrow might be able see shadows of objects/people. But Sparrow doesn’t let his lack of vision hold him back – his lack of sight means he has developed amazing senses and is a very intelligent boy.
Sparrow currently lives with two children – one teenager and one older child and he completely adores them. He particularly loves walking on the beach, playing with his friends and cuddling up to people.
Given Sparrow’s harsh start to life, he was initially timid and worried about traffic but his foster carer worked on his confidence around traffic a lot and saw some improvement. He has since been moved to another foster who has continued to build up his confidence in a more rural area.
Sparrow would prefer a home where people are around often and can slowly build up the time he is left alone.

Nina in three words | Friends with everyone
Nina was found wandering the streets, in a known local village where dogs are dumped. Friends of the shelter found her and began feeding her but one day Nina decided to follow them home. Sadly their own dogs began tormenting her so she ran away. She went further down the road and another house, who had 7 dogs, started feeding her. They decided they couldn’t take on another large dog so called our partner shelter who agreed to rescue Nina.
Nina is friendly with all dogs and people, playful, loving and very loyal. She enjoys walks but likes to amble along at her own pace.
As Nina had to fight for her life on the streets, she has some anxiety around food. She doesn’t like people or dogs watching her eat as she feels threatened by this.
The shelter also believe she may have been hit by her previous owner as she is fearful of sticks. However, she is confident around men and has no issues.

Sinbad in three words | Sweet young spirit
Sinbad was found with his brother as a tiny puppy. They were living under a car in the extreme heat of 40 degrees and Sinbad was completely infested with ticks, emaciated and dehydrated. Sinbad was found at just the right time and has gone on to be very fit now!
Sinbad is still a young dog and his personality develops day by day. He is incredibly sweet, full of love and spirit!
Sinbad loves engaging with people, young and old! He is a typical puppy and just wants to play with his friends all day long, which is hard in the summer months because it is just too hot in Bahrain for this.
Sinbad loves treats, chew toys and cuddling up you.

Rustle was found abandoned in the mountains of Greece with severe demodex mange. He was rescued by our partner shelter and taken to the veterinary clinic straight away where he has been recovering from the mange and is now doing very well.
Rustle is very friendly, affectionate and loves to play! He seems very happy to now have the attention he missed out on as a tiny pup.
As you can see from photos, Rustle is still growing back his fur and is a little red in places but it won’t be long until Rustle has made a full recovery and is ready to travel to a loving new home!

Richie in three words | Quiet but curious
Richie (originally from Portugal, but currently in Oxfordshire) was found in a seriously malnourished states on the streets of Portugal with his sister. They were initially both very shy, underweight and had a very matted coat. However, Richie is now back to full health and doing great.
Richie has a quiet and submissive personality. He loves to play with other dogs once he knows them but is initially a little timid and nervous. Once Richie trusts a dog, he loves running and playing with them. Despite his timidity at first glance, he is a true adventurer, he is very inquisitive, loves to learn and is very obedient.
Richie can also be shy with new people but is gentle, kind and with some reassurance he warms up to you quickly and is soon asking for cuddles! He would be best suited to a home with older children who understand his anxieties and will approach him calmly.
As Richie has a quiet personality, he will need slow introductions to everything. He is great with other dogs and often learns confidence from the ones he trusts so he would be well suited to a home with another confident dog.
Richie’s ideal home would be in a rural environment where he can build up his confidence gradually.

Brownie in three words | Sweet as chocolate
Brownie is part of a litter that were found abandoned in a remote area of Lesvos. All of his siblings are now adopted but he is the last one to find his perfect home.
This gorgeous golden boy (likely a Retriever mix) is a gentle character and can be a little timid with new people. He dislikes sudden movements so a home with only adults or children that are older with a calm disposition would be best for him.
Once Brownie trusts you he is super playful, cuddly and tugs at your trousers to get attention. He enjoys playing with people, dogs, running around and stealing peoples shoes – he is a cheeky little chappy!

Aggie in three words | Best mum ever
Aggie was abandoned in a nearby village with her two puppies, Chip and Sunny, and they were all brought to the shelter by a local. Given Aggie’s history of growing up on the streets of Bulgaria, she was very reactive to new dogs and people when she first came to the shelter, likely due to a lack of trust. She was extremely protective over her puppies and would guard their pen. She was very anxious and frightened of people.
After being given lots of love and attention Aggie was settled down a lot, she now loves to play with other dogs, is much more confident and enjoys cuddling up to people. Aggie is still a little bit shy of being touched on her head and she is unsure of new people to start with but with time and patience she soon warms up!
After a harsh beginning to life, there is nothing we would love more than to reward this devoted mum with a great home she can relax in.

Oreo was found roaming the streets by one of the shelter workers. When Oreo was found she was in relatively good condition so it is believed that she may have been dumped recently by her previous owner, or that she was purposefully bred and the breeder didn’t like the look of her, so discarded her.
Oreo is very shy and takes a while to warm to people. Oreo may have potentially been abused by a previous owner and so she needs patience and understanding in order to form trust. But underneath Oreo’s shy exterior reveals a very loving dog with a sweet, gentle and kind soul. She longs for a kind person to show her all the love she has missed out on.
Once you get to know Oreo she is very playful, loves to run free and splash around in the paddling pool. She loves chewing her toys and playing with her friends.
Oreo can be unsure of new dogs but once she knows them she is very happy to play.

Skyla in three words | Flourishing in foster
Skyla was abandoned in the mountains, which is sadly a common way to rid of unwanted dogs in Greece but thankfully she was found and taken to the safety of our partner shelter.
When Olivia and Meghan, two of the Wild at Heart team members, visited this Greek shelter earlier in 2019, Skyla was one of the dogs that stood out. It was hardly believable how a dog as gentle, sweet, friendly and simply stunning could have been abandoned by anyone. Such goes the story that Meghan welcomed two dogs from our Greek shelter into her home as fosters in the coming months – one being Skyla – and has made it her mission to find this misunderstood girl an amazing new life.
Since Skyla has been in foster she has gone from strength to strength. Once a timid and frightened dog, she grows in confidence daily and with some reassurance and a loving approach, Skyla trusts enough to follow you in most situations. Skyla can still be shy to be begin with and is unsure of strangers (but trusts strangers with dogs a lot more!) but once approached calmly, she soon warms up to you.
Skyla draws a lot of confidence from Meghan’s dog, Caramel, and for this reason Skyla would be best suited to a home with another confident dog that could help lead her. Whilst she trusts her close circle of people, she trusts dogs a lot more and often the only reason she will approach new situations is because Caramel is with her.
Skyla loves other dogs and her little face lights up when she sees dogs at the park. Once she feels settled, she is very playful and gets very excited when playing with dogs. She is very bouncy and fast! Her recall is also improving but when nervous of something, Skyla can have the tendency to flee away from the situation.
Skyla loves nothing more than cuddling up on the sofa with you and being stroked. She’ll often put her paws around your arm when you stop or place her head (or full body!) on top of you to restart the process!
Skyla enjoys being deep in the woods or in a large open park, she is very active whilst outdoors but is happy to snooze the day away whilst indoors.
Skyla can be very anxious around traffic and loud noises. Meghan is working to desensitise her to this but this will likely be a case of constant training, with slow and gradual progress. For this reason, Skyla would prefer at least a semi-rural home. As Skyla is still fairly anxious walking around roads, she often runs around your legs when she becomes nervous but Meghan is working on her lead training and confidence with walking.
Skyla has briefly encountered cats at her shelter and took no notice of them. She is a gentle girl so she should adapt to cats well but she isn’t currently living with a cat.
A home with older children only would suit Skyla because loud & excited children unsettle her slightly.

Twix in three words | Full of love
Twix’s previous owner used to leave him for days on end in his caravan whilst he travelled around. Luckily some ladies in an adjoining campsite noticed this. They fed and let Twix out daily but this was no life for him and his owner didn’t want the responsibility of Twix anymore. Upon learning about this, Twix was soon rescued and taken to the safety of our partner shelter in Portugal.
Even with Twix’s less than ideal start to life he still has total trust in people, he just wants to be loved and he especially warms to men.
Twix is very intelligent and playful. He gets on well with the dogs at the shelter but he can be slightly unsure of new dogs to begin with. He would be suited to being the solo dog in a household because he loves humans so much!
Twix enjoys chasing around after a ball but doesn’t take an interest in the shelter’s paddling pool like some of the other dogs!

Bertie in three words | Man’s best friend
Bertie arrived in the UK from Cyprus in January 2018 but found an urban environment too overwhelming. He has since been in long term foster in Leicestershire where he has made amazing progress.
Bertie has the most gentle nature and he’s a fantastic companion. He’s never chewed a cushion, he’s house trained and absolutely loves a good cuddle!
Bertie enjoys meeting other dogs in a home or garden environment, but because he finds it difficult being out and about in busy areas he can feel tense when on lead which leads to reactivity towards other dogs.
He knows basic commands and has good recall however he will need ongoing training to help him overcome his reactivity.
We think that Bertie would benefit from a home with an already established dog as he loves to run and play with them. Although he is a small dog he has bursts of energy and loves to be running about outdoors.
Bertie is fantastic with children of all ages, he loves nothing more than snuggling up with them and aside from a little playful teasing, he also gets on fine with the cat of the household too.
Bertie will be best suited to at least a semi-rural environment.

Buckley in three words | Adorable clever clogs
Originally from Cyprus, Buckley is a fun, lively and devoted boy! He loves long walks where he can run freely (and fast!). When he has had enough, he’ll settle for long periods of time indoors with his favourite bone.
Though he has an early onset of hip dysplasia, which will still be covered with the insurance he is on, nothing stops him from galloping endlessly with his friends or playing a game of chase!
For Buckley, there’s also nothing better than an early morning snuggle. He puts his front paws on the bed, snuggles his head in for a moment or two and then goes back to his own bed for an hour or so!
Buckley, though he loves being around and playing with other dogs, he is fear reactive around some adults and children, in particular. Therefore he needs to be placed in an adult-only home. He’s also not keen on being without his owners in an unfamiliar environment so needs slow introductions and owners who have quite a bit of experience with dogs in the past.
But he is very intelligent and has come on leaps and bounds with his training. He has overcome his fear of traffic and much work has been done regarding impulse control. He has mastered many commands and has near perfect recall. He is also familiar with a day care environment.

Tiger in three words | A smiling survivor
Tiger, known as Suua in Thai, is an energetic bundle of joy!
Found in an abused and neglected condition in someone’s garden in Rayana, in the South of Thailand, Tiger was seized from his owner and taken into a rescue and rehabilitation centre. He has spent most of his life chained up and when he was found he was suffering from horrific wounds and severe neck injuries.
Now, having finally been given the freedom, this gorgeous dog runs around like an excitable pup with boundless energy! He loves playing around with other dogs, playing in water and is highly entertained by his toys.
He plays nicely with female and non-dominant male dogs but will sometimes growl or bark at dominant males.
Although he is sensitive when his neck is touched from his previous injuries, he is also fine walking on lead and comfortably wears a collar.
As well as being great with other dogs, he is also good with people. Tiger needs a home willing to give him the love, time and attention he missed out on as a puppy.

Roxie in three words | Bold and beautiful
Roxie was found outside a local temple in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand. Despite her poor start in life, she is a lively, charismatic dog: full of life, energy and love.
She can be nervous and wary of new dogs at first and can try to dominate so she needs positive introductions. Yet with dogs she knows at the rescue centre, she is very playful and loving.
To name a few, Roxie loves walking, running, and playing with her toys (especially her chew toys). She has a very healthy appetite and is food-motivated so she’ll sit and wait for her treats.
More importantly, Roxie likes affection and cuddles and is looking for a home who can give her just as much love.

Athena in three words | Shy but snuggly
Athena was found alongside her siblings on a busy main road in Romania. All were rescued safely and now live at a local shelter, awaiting loving homes and families of their own.
Athena is still a little timid around around new people but with extra love and attention she soon starts to trust and comes out of her shell. She will need slow introductions to new people and strangers.
Similarly, Athena can be little nervous of new dogs but she soon warms up to them and wants to play! She would benefit from a home with another confident, resident dog as she follows and copies the more confident dogs.
As Athena can be quite shy, her ideal home would be in a rural area, away from loud and busy places.
Her favourite thing is cuddling up next to people and being given treats!

Artie in three words | Bundle of mischief
Artie was found alongside his siblings on a busy main road in Romania. All were rescued safely and now live at a local shelter, awaiting loving homes and families of their own.
Artie is a lovable bundle of mischief. He loves playing with the other dogs and particularly enjoys chasing them around and being chased!
He is more vocal than the other siblings and vies for attention by barking. We’re confident this could be worked through with positive reinforcement training, though.
Artie also likes to bark at cats but is too afraid to actually approach them. For this reason, Artie would be best suited to a home without cats.
As Artie is slightly more vocal, he would be best suited to a rural environment as excessive noise may trigger him to bark more.

Tic-tac is extremely friendly and loves cuddling up on your lap. He is very silly and would entertain children all day with his goofiness!
When Tic-Tac is taken away from what he is used to he can become a little shy, but he’s such a lover of people that a little TLC and patience is enough to reassure him that all is well.

Mormo is a loving and affectionate dog with a lot of energy. She loves to chew her toys and perform tricks, particularly catching treats! She also loves to chase around after her ball. She is very bubbly and just wants some solo attention!
Mormo is not great with other dogs and needs to learn to read social cues. She would therefore need an owner with previous experience to help her adjust to a new environment and prefer to be the only dog in a home.
Mormo has a lot of love to give and would make a great dog, she would need lead training but is a fast learner so could pick this up with some training. Mormo would suit an active family, preferably with a garden so she can run around and play with her toys.

Elko in three words | Three legged wonder!
Elko is one of our Super Six – the six Lebanese street dogs rescued as part of our 2019 Lebanon project. Elko used to be a pet, until his owners decided they no longer wanted to care for him and turned him out on the streets.
According to locals in the area, he had been roaming the streets ever since, desperately hoping for a second chance that never came. Once we heard about Elko’s story, we knew we had to step in and save him. Elko was in a bad way physically, as you can see from the initial photos: he had an awful case of mange and has had to have his front leg amputated due to the severe damage that had been caused. But just look at him now!..
Despite everything he’s been through, Elko is a really friendly dog who hasn’t let his terrible luck turn him against humans. He’s a placid, happy-go-lucky boy who gets on well with the other dogs at the shelter, keeps out of fights and drama, and lives for his next cuddle. Sadly, he simply cannot receive the level of love, dedication and interaction he deserves whilst living in a large shelter and we desperately want to find this soppy boy a home of his own so he can enjoy some well-deserved attention.
As with all our rescues, we’re committed to ensuring that all Elko’s veterinary needs are met before he is re-homed, and will work closely with his adopters to provide all the aftercare he might need to rehabilitate. His surgery has been completed, and he walks comfortably on three legs. His disability does not get in his way or cause him discomfort, and he plays and walks as happily as any four-legged dog!

Lizzie in three words | Delightfully dignified lady
Lizzie was found as a stray with a litter of 5 two-week-old puppies. She has since been living in a foster home. Her pups have now been adopted, Lizzie remains at the shelter and is desperately longing for a home of her own.
Lizzie has made huge progress since arriving. Despite being very reserved and nervous around people when she was first rescued, she is now very friendly and loves cuddles!
Lizzie is fast and energetic despite her size, she’s also very agile and likes to climb on the highest possible spot to purvey her surroundings! She is very inquisitive and always the first one to see what is happening.
Lizzie is a sweet, loving dog who would be the most amazing companion. She would be better suited to a semi-rural home. She could not cope with busy city life but quieter suburbs could be considered.

Daisy in three words | Nervous but nice
Daisy was rescued from Romania after she and her siblings were thrown over the wall of a shelter in a plastic bag. All of the litter were adopted a few years ago but unfortunately Daisy is still looking for her ideal home. Her owners have made the difficult decision to seek a more suitable home for her after recognising that their urban environment is causing her a lot of stress.
When Daisy arrived in the UK as a puppy she had suffered a traumatic and inconsistent beginning through no fault of her own. She was consequently very nervous and fearful and struggled to connect with people. However, after an intensive training course and significant dedication to helping her acclimatise to her new life, Daisy calmed down and started to fit in with her new family. In this time she passed her Sensitivity course at ElmTree Dog Training and amazed everyone with her progress. She will sit, wait, do tricks and will wait to eat a treat until commanded to do so. Daisy is extremely intelligent and learns quickly.
Given her past, Daisy was socialised carefully and slowly but once thoughtfully introduced to new people she falls in love and becomes devoted to them. She has improved immensely around people but can still be wary, particularly of men. To those she loves, she sings to them, mostly including the women in the household and also the family cleaner. Daisy adores walks in the countryside where she can chase birds and squirrels to her hearts content. She loves being brushed and whilst she dislikes bath-time she puts up with it because she enjoys the end result, burying her nose into the soft towel when you dry her off.
With proper introductions, Daisy loves to play with other dogs, regularly joining group dog walks but she becomes particularly anxious when dogs run up to her.
Daisy is a lovely but nervous dog who prefers a calm home. Her current adopters have committed to consistent training and she is much improved since she first came to them. However, her anxiety, busy city life and living with another dog, means she struggles in her current home. When Daisy and her current adopters go away to the countryside where she thrives and is a much happier dog.
Daisy is a very loving that ultimately needs a quiet home in a rural area with no children or other pets. She currently shares her home with another older dog but would prefer being the solo dog in the household, where adopters could concentrate on her training and provide her with the calm environment she needs. She would also benefit from an experienced owner, or foster, who is committed to keeping up with her training and working past any ongoing behavioural traits.

Poppy (was Sunday) came over from Greece earlier this year with her ‘days of the week’ siblings, and settled into a home here in the UK. She’s adapted well to life as an adopted pup, and has picked up her training like a pro. She now sleeps through the night and is fully housetrained, and her recall is good enough that she can enjoy off lead walks – what a quick learner!
Sadly, Poppy’s adopters are no longer able to manage owning a dog and have made the difficult decision to help find her another home. Poppy is a very friendly and affectionate dog, who will make the most wonderful companion. She’s great with people, loves meeting new visitors to the house, and has enjoyed being around her current owners’ young grandchildren. As a puppy, she can be a bit boisterous when excited as all growing dogs are, but she’s proven herself very trustworthy around little ones.
She loves playing with her toys (especially her favourite chew toys) and is great with other dogs. In fact, she would be very happy to live alongside another dog she could play with. She loves her walks and is looking for a home where she can enjoy getting out the house, exploring, and playing to her heart’s content.
Poppy is food motivated which makes her very easy to train. She’s picked up a few tricks in the short time she’s been here, and would love to keep learning. Her love of food means she can sometimes get protective over her meals and more high-value treats, but this is a trait that is common in rescue dogs as they settle into their new environment – with a bit of time and training, Poppy will learn that no one’s planning to take her treats away from her!
There’s little that Poppy doesn’t like – even the dreaded bathtime has become something she’s learned to like (well, perhaps tolerate is a better word!) thanks to her owners frequent handling. She can be nervous of new sounds, but is proving to be a resilient dog – she tends to sit and wait when she hears something that startles her, until working out that the coast is clear and carrying on when she feels safe again.
Poppy is a wonderful dog who is hoping that her next home will be forever. Could you be her “third time lucky”?
Poppy is currently living in Buckinghamshire – a meet-up could be arranged for serious prospective adopters.

Kelsey in three words | Playful. Happy. Inquisitive.
Kelsey and her siblings her discovered in mountains of Greece by some tourists. Sadly, one of the siblings was found dead and the kind tourists knew they had to help the remaining pups. They were brought to the safety of our partner shelter and are now thriving!
Kelsey is a playful, happy and inquisitive puppy. They haven’t been at the shelter long but the siblings are enjoying learning (and sniffing!) their new surroundings. Kelsey has quickly learned to love her food and playing with her toys.

Seeker in three words | Boop that snoot
Seeker’s name in Thai translates literally as ‘someone that has come from afar’, a name which was given to him after he appeared at our partner shelter out of the blue. It was as if he knew he needed help, and he somehow senses that this was the best place to get it: Seeker by name, seeker by nature!
Seeker is believed to have been someone’s pet before being dumped and abandoned – sadly an all too common fate for dogs in Thailand. Despite this, he still enjoys human company and makes himself very happily at home in the houses at the shelter when he’s allowed in…clearly his pet ways haven’t left him!
He’s a happy, friendly young lad who’s always smiling – his distinctive blue tongue makes his grin all the more endearing. He loves to walk and play in the shelter’s extensive farmland grounds; he’s an energetic boy who’d love a family who can give him the active, playful lifestyle he craves.
Seeker is good with people, especially once he’s built up a bond, when he’ll follow you like a shadow! He gets on well with most of the dogs at the shelter, and plays well with the female dogs, but he can be reactive around older / alpha males. We’re sure with a bit of positive training, he’ll learn to be his soppy self around dogs of all ages and sizes.

Tommy in three words | Bundle of love
Tommy has recently arrived from Portugal and is enjoying learning about UK life in his foster home – visits may be arranged for serious potential adopters.
When Tommy and his brothers were only 3 weeks old they were found dumped outside the shelter in a beer box that was full of dirt.
Tommy and his siblings have been living with a wonderful foster mum ever since. The puppies live with lots of cats and a young toddler. The siblings particularly love playing with children!
Tommy is very playful, highly sociable and extremely friendly with people of all ages.

He has a friendly and obedient nature and would make the perfect companion for anyone lucky enough to welcome him into their home!

Mabel in three words | Cat-loving cutie
Mabel was found at around 5 weeks old at the side of a very busy road in Lesvos with a severe cut on her side. She was taken into foster care, treated and spent her early months growing up with three little foster kittens!
Mabel is a very clever little puppy. She is playful, cuddly and has some house training. Although, this training would need to be reinforced again once in a new home in the UK.
Mabel enjoys going for walks and cuddling her kitten siblings. As Mabel loves her kitten friends, she would likely be interested in cats in her new UK home.

Sunny in three words | Ray of sunshine
Sunny was abandoned in a nearby village with her sibling and mother and they were all brought to the shelter by a local.
Sunny is a very active and energetic puppy. She doesn’t seem to tire easily, so will need long walks (when old enough) and lots of stimulation to keep her busy! She would be a great fit for an active family that are looking to adopt a small dog.
Sunny is friendly, loves cuddles and is very curious. She always wants to know what is going on and yearns to be part of the action!
Sunny is very good around the other dogs at the shelter and loves to play. She was initially nervous of new dogs and reacted to them but she has since settled.
Sunny is crate trained so it might be beneficial to have a crate in her new home.
It would potentially be beneficial for Chip and his sister, Sunny, to be rehomed together. However, we are also considering independent homes for both.
Sunny will be ready to travel from January 2020.

You might recognise Tiptoe as Tap – but after a whole year of being advertised on our website with not a single enquiry coming through, we felt that this gorgeous girl deserved a fresh chance at finding her forever family. And what better way to kick things off than with a brand new name!
Tiptoe is as gentle and quiet as her name suggests – in fact, she has a heart-achingly sweet habit of tiptoeing over to you and tucking her head into the crook of your arm for a cuddle.
She’s a placid-natured, happy little dog that adores humans, especially children. Tiptoe gets along brilliantly with the other dogs at the shelter – she doesn’t display dominance or aggression, and those around her seem to recognise her quiet, calm brand of confidence and love her all the more for it.
After being involved in a car accident as a young puppy, Tiptoe was fortunately rescued by our shelter in Thailand where she’s been able to enjoy long walks round the lush, green shelter and has benefited from the dedicated care, affection, stimulation and socialisation that this shelter offers. As a result, she is house trained, collar & lead trained and will sit on command.
But now, Tiptoe deserves to know the comfort and companionship of a family of her own. Having met her in person, we know what a wonderful pet she’ll make one very lucky person or family.

Mackie was rescued after being dumped in a rice field with no mother at just a few weeks old. Mackie is incredibly affectionate and LOVES cuddles and belly rubs. He’s also very playful and enjoys retrieve games and toys in general. Mackie is good with other dogs and children but given the choice he’d much rather be around people than other dogs.
Mackie is house trained, collar & lead trained and will sit on command. He would be prefer to be an only dog so he could get all the attention to himself!
If you are interested in rehoming Mackie, please get in touch!
Jasper was found walking the streets with a pack of stray dogs as a puppy. Jasper was one of the only ones in the pack to survive and luckily he was rescued and taken to the local shelter.
Jasper wants nothing more than to be loved – he would lay with you all day having his belly rubbed. He is extremely cuddly and affectionate, gentle-natured and great with children.
Jasper is extremely loyal, obedient and has had some basic lead training and hasn’t proved difficult to walk.
Jasper’s favourite hobbies include rolling in mud, running around and playing with other dogs and people.
There isn’t much Jasper doesn’t like, except not getting enough attention!
Duke was found wandering in an industrial area of Bahrain; very dangerous for strays, who are often poisoned or deliberately dumped to die in these places. Duke was luckily rescued by an office worker and taken to a local shelter as a young puppy.
Duke has been at the shelter since he was young. Despite this, he takes everything in his stride and holds his head very high, always looking very pleased with himself! He was named Duke as a puppy because he looks so regal, always observing the world around him!
Duke is a free-spirited boy who would love nothing more than to run for miles through open fields of grass, something he has sadly yet to experience. He loves to walk and run and would go forever. Therefore, he is looking for an active family with plenty of open spaces for him to enjoy running.
Duke also loves splashing around in water and playing with the other dogs. When he’s not running around with his friends, he enjoys cuddling up to people and is very affectionate.
Originally from Bosnia, Medo is a big bear with a loveable personality. He is cheeky and playful and loves to carry his toys from one room to another, one by one. Medo likes to play with other dogs, but he prefers smaller playmates: he can be a little nervous around larger dogs, lying down when they approach.
Medo is a large dog, and sadly his owner had to rehome him as she couldn’t handle his size and strength on her own. Although Medo generally walks well on a lead, he can get excited and lunge.
Medo is now in foster with a professional behaviourist who is taking the time to work on the things that make Mormo anxious – he can be nervous around people he doesn’t know, and sometimes unpredictable. But with patience and support, he’s proven himself to be very loving and loyal.
Medo would be suited to a home in a rural or semi-rural area, with a strong handler. His adopter will need to have experience with dogs (ideally with rescues and/or larger breeds), and should understand the training and care needed to give a large dog like Medo the happy life he deserves.
Kokas was found wandering with his friend, Lua, on the streets of a Portuguese village, in a malnourished state. They were both brought into the shelter covered in fleas and starving.
Now, Kokas is a healthy, relaxed dog who enjoys most of his time in the shelter laying in the sun. He is well mannered and loves human company and affection. He also plays very well with other dogs and enjoys being around them.
He especially loves cuddles and fuss, as well as his chew toys that are specially donated to him! He shies away from aggressive situations and has a non-confrontational nature, being such a gentle soul.
Bonnie previously lived in a house with two other dogs. Her owners had severe learning difficulties which meant they were unable to care for them responsibly; the local mayor was made aware of Bonnie and her fellow canine companion, and appealed to a local shelter to look after them instead.
When Bonnie first came into the shelter, she was diagnosed with a tick borne disease but has since been treated and is doing very well; she has no signs of suffering since being treated.
She was frightened at first that whenever a human got close to her she would wet herself. However, after 6 months of one-to-one attention and love, Bonnie now happily approaches volunteers and even new visitors to the shelter. She is currently living with one of the volunteers as she loves humans and attention, although she does snore a bit!
Bonnie loves pack walks with the other dogs and is very bouncy and playful. She is very fond of humans, attaching herself to them and proving her loyalty. If another dog is getting the attention instead of her she can get a bit jealous!
Bonnie still gets a little scared by loud noises but settles again with some reassurance. She can also be wary of new people, especially tall men so will need lots of positive reinforcement to overcome her fear.
Lana is one of five siblings found abandoned when they were around 4 weeks old. Luckily she was rescued and all the pups are doing extremely well.
Lana is a sweet puppy just starting to discover the world around her. At the moment she mostly plays with her siblings but her confidence is beginning to grow around the other dogs, who she is starting to play with too.
Lana is good with other dogs, cats and children.
She would be best suited to a rural environment.
If you’re interested in adopting Lana, please get in touch!
Sally was found abandoned with her siblings in a small village that is a known dumping space for dogs. They were rescued by the local shelter at about 1.5 months old.
Sally is a very sweet pup, very kind and gentle. Her favourite thing is playing with her siblings and chewing her toys.
The puppies are still developing their personality so more information may available at a later stage.
Sally will be able to travel from late October/beginning November.
Linda was found abandoned with her siblings in a small village that is a known dumping space for dogs. They were rescued by the local shelter at about 1.5 months old.
Linda is one of the quieter ones in the litter. However, her confidence is growing daily and she is becoming less shy around new people she meets.
The puppies are still developing their personality so more information may available at a later stage.
Linda will be able to travel from late October/beginning November.

Joss was found abandoned with her siblings in a small village that is a known dumping space for dogs. They were rescued by the local shelter at about 1.5 months old.
Joss is one of the more relaxed of her litter. She spends her time taking things in whilst lying around in the sunshine! She can be a little timid but she responds well to people and cuddles.
Joss loves tumbling around with her siblings and playing with her toys.
The puppies are still developing their personality so more information may available at a later stage.
Joss will be able to travel from late October/beginning November.
Velvet was found abandoned in a rural area, not far from the city of Mytilene, along with two of her siblings. The pups arrived with demodex mange but have since been treated and their skin is now looking and feeling much better!
Velvet is a sweet little lady who is sociable, calm natured and wants to please. She is very fond of humans but less cuddly than the other siblings – her foster mum will soon persuade her otherwise though we’re sure!
She is good with other dogs and cats. She has not yet been tested around children, but she’s calm and content around humans and we don’t have any reason to believe she’d have a problem with their company.
Pluto was rescued after he showed up in a village, severely underweight and malnourished. It was clear that he’d been struggling on the streets for some time, and he was in desperate need of care. Fortunately for Pluto, he was picked up by some rescuers and taken into foster, where he was given a safe place to regain his strength.
Now Pluto is on the mend, his personality has emerged as a kind, sociable and loving dog. Despite his struggles, he’s affectionate and friendly and hasn’t let his difficult start in life get in the way of his positive outlook on the world around him! He loves going for walks and also enjoys travelling in the car.
Pluto has had the chance to socialise with children which he loved! He’s a gentle boy who seems to get along with everyone he meets.
