Gino had lived on the streets of Bulgaria for many years but it is believed that Gino was an owned dog at some point in his life. He was found by an apartment block and unfortunately Gino would guard the territory of the block from male dogs – he wasn’t keen on the owned male dogs that lived there. Eventually, the municipality wanted Gino and all the street dogs removed, despite him being much loved by the residents there and regularly being cuddled by children.

Gino is 4 years old and has been resident in our partner shelter for long enough, patiently awaiting his new beginning. In search of an owner who is confident with rescue dogs and someone willing to spend time working with him, Gino will be eager to show his loyalty and love in gratitude for a safe space to call home.

Despite his abandonment and the harsh realities he has faced, it is clear that Gino is a people dog who is desperate for copious amounts of love. Gino was popular with the local children when he lived on the street and took huge joy in playing with them. With this in mind, he could be considered to a home with dog savvy children. He is also a great cuddle buddy and would happily snooze on the sofa next to you after a gentle walk. He also enjoys a good brush and fuss!

Considering he hasn’t had much training in his life, Gino has really enjoyed his training at the shelter – he takes huge pride in pleasing the volunteers! He now walks very well on the lead (he can be strong!) but isn’t bothered about long, extensive walks. He used to jump up for treats but he’ll now wait calmly for his food and has learned to sit for treats – which he can’t get enough of!

Gino is great with female dogs and puppies but has felt triggered by male dogs in the past and can be reactive to them. This has improved since being at the shelter and he is now comfortable with male dogs when he is kept on the lead. It is preferable for Gino to be in a home with someone who is willing to support him in how far he has come. We will be looking for someone dedicated to continuing his training and ability to refocus Gino in situations that he may feel anxious. It is unlikely that Gino will be allowed off lead due to his reactivity with male dogs. Due to this, he would be best suited to a home on his own, or with another female dog.

He is not good with cats so we will not be considering homes with cats or other small animals.

Gino is bound to make a loyal companion to his new humans. He will absolutely thrive being part of a family that love, support and cherish him for all that he is – there is no doubt he will love them back even more.
