Clara was found in an enclosed area of land by the owner of our partner shelter in Lesvos. When she visited Clara and brought her food and water, Clara was initially frightened and reacted out of fear. Clara had a change of heart when she was taken in to the care of our partner and realised she was finally in safe company, immediately giving he rescuer a thank you kiss on the hand. Since being rescued, Clara has grown in confidence and we think she will make a wonderful companion to very lucky adopters in the UK.

Clara is an incredibly intelligent girl, who learns very quickly and has blossomed out of her shell more each day. It is clear that she is very grateful to her rescuer, showing her thanks in her very funny and charming ways! She has a wonderful playful side and loves nothing more than plenty of attention! She loves to be talked to during cuddles and sometimes even mouths peoples hands in an affectionate way, so that they give her more tummy rubs! Clara forms very special bonds with people that she knows, but it may take her a little time to warm up to new people. Her new adopters will need to be patient and calm when introducing themselves and Clara to other people, but as long as you take it at her pace she soon relaxes and is keen to soak up lots of fuss.

With her a big loyal heart, Clara is a protective and nurturing soul and this can sometimes manifest as resource guarding. She can sometimes feel defensive over her foster carer, making sure that most of the cuddles are reserved for her! She is becoming to understand that the other dogs need attention too, but prospective adopters will need to feel confident working with Clara in these situations and help positively remind her that she doesn’t have to worry about sharing.

Clara loves riding in the car to new places! She would definitely enjoy jumping in the car and exploring lots of exciting walks with her humans. She has a very playful and energetic side which could manifest into destructive behaviour if she hasn’t let off all her steam! We also think Clara would prefer adopters who are mostly orientated at home, to give her all of the love that she so craves. Please bear in mind that Clara could suffer from separation anxiety if left too long and any adopters will need to be dedicated to helping her overcome this.

Clara does get along with other dogs, but takes a little time to warm up to them on initial meetings. She never shows any aggression, but she needs gentle encouragement to feel comfortable. Once she has started to feel at ease, her playful side is sure to emerge and she will happily make some new four legged friends – although unfortunately the same can’t be said for her friendship with cats! With this in mind, we won’t be considering homes with any resident cats and we also think she is better suited to a home where she is the only dog.

We will not be considering homes with young children or toddlers but families with older and dog savvy children may be considered on a case by case basis.

Clara is a very special soul with an abundance of love to give. We have no doubt that with a little bit of patience and a lot of her favourite cheesy snacks on offer, Clara will soon settle with adopters who have a heart just as big as hers!

Clara came into shelter care with a few scars on her muzzle and legs. We do not know why or how she got them, but they do not cause her any further issues or discomfort.

Please note, that due to on-going travel restrictions and transport logistics, we currently do not have a transport date in place for dogs travelling from Lesvos. As a result, it may take us longer to reply to applications, thank you for your patience, and rest assured we’ll be in touch to discuss your interest in Clara as soon as possible!
