Calico and her brothers were found in an abandoned house with their mother, not long after she had given birth. Thankfully the owner of our partner shelter in Romania took the family in to the warmth and helped nurture the very young pups. The siblings have been cared for at a foster home and are now eager to find their perfect forever homes in the UK.

Calico is still very young and is learning about the big wide world around her every day, although she has no problem keeping up with her four brothers and is proving to be the most energetic of the siblings! Calico has a confident side, but this will still need to be nurtured by her adopters in her new home, as she gets used to a completely different environment.

Calico is a little princess at heart and has no problem playing up to the title! After plenty of play time and exploring, her favourite place to be is snuggled up on a warm blanket, where she will almost instantly curl up and snooze to her hearts content. Calico would love to enjoy her afternoon naps in as much peace and quiet as possible. Her foster home in Romania is very rural & quiet and so she has not been exposed to busy environments/urban areas before. In order to help her adapt, we will only be considering homes in at least semi-rural areas. We have no doubt that Calico will relish being spoiled rotten by her humans and enjoy all of the little comforts that her new home has to offer!

Calico certainly has an eye (and a hungry tummy) for food! She absolutely loves meal times and is currently proving to be a keen learner for plenty of tasty treats! This will be an excellent tool during her training sessions and when helping her feel confident in her new home.

She will also need slow and positive introductions when meeting new dogs, as she can be a little vocal with those that are much bigger than her! With this in mind, adopters will need to be prepared for training her to be less reactive towards strange dogs and an experienced owner would be preferred. Calico could be the only dog in the home, but similarly she could adapt to a home with a calm & friendly resident dog that can help lead the way and teach her that other dogs aren’t so scary. However, owners would need to be dedicated to the bonding process between resident dog and Calico, which could initially take some time.

Calico has not yet been tested with cats so we will be watching how her personality develops and considering homes on a case by case basis. She has had some socialisation with children, but she is best suited to a family with calm, older, dog savvy children who are sensitive to her needs.

Please note, Calico won’t be able to travel until at least mid March. As a result, it may take us longer to reply to applications, as we need to prioritise those arriving sooner – thank you for your patience, and rest assured we’ll be in touch to discuss your interest in Calico as soon as possible!
