Sadly, dogs in Bali also fall victim to the dog meat trade; a hard to comprehend subject when we think about our canine companions, but one which must not be overlooked. Family dogs are allowed roam the streets, and with sterilisation and vaccination costs for a pet dog representing up to 30% of one-months’ salary in Bali, the cycle of unwanted puppies being born is perpetuated.
Jet Set Petz was founded in 2011 by Rhonda Lepsch, having experienced 400+ dogs being abandoned over time in the car park of her business. Based in Tanjung Benoa, a peninsula in the south of Bali, Rhonda has over 10 years’ experience of rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming.
The organisation has helped over 5000 animals across sterilisation, vaccination, and rehoming, and Rhonda currently cares for 80+ dogs. Responsible pet ownership education is also a focus, with Jet Set Petz distributing vouchers to low-income residents to enable the vaccination/sterilisation of their pets.
We began supporting Jet Set Petz during 2022, providing welfare financial support to assist with both general vet/sterilisation and food costs. We then also went on to fund the specific vet care of two beach dogs in dire need of medical treatment and ongoing rehabilitation.
If a regular donation towards a specific project is set up and we subsequently cease to provide support in the future, any recurring donations will be allocated to the areas of our other work requiring the most support.
